On Thursday, August 1, 2013, students in Deyang visited a retirement home, where they spent the afternoon interacting with the residents who lived there. First, the students sang two songs in Chinese to the delight of the audience, and then they asked the residents questions about their lives using the Chinese language skills they've acquired throughout the six-week program. As a final treat, the students gave the residents Chinese dumplings that they cooked during a cultural activity in their classrooms that afternoon. The afternoon left our NSLI-Y participants with unforgettable memories of the experience and provided an afternoon of great joy for the local community.
